Flexport appoints Florian Braun head of ocean for EMEA

Florian Braun joins from DB Schenker where he was responsible for the company’s digital ocean strategy. He replaces Martin Holst-Mikkelsen, who becomes Flexport’s head of ocean for Asia.

US freight forwarder Flexport has named Florian Braun as its new head of ocean for the EMEA region.

Braun joined Flexport on 1 December because his predecessor, Martin Holst-Mikkelsen, is relocating to Singapore to become Flexport’s head of ocean for Asia, starting in January 2021.

Braun has spent 14 years in logistics, seven of which were spent working in China. Most recently he worked at DB Schenker where he served as VP of Ocean 4.0, responsible for the company’s digital ocean strategy. Prior to that, he worked as a trade lane manager in China with DHL. He will be based in Flexport’s Hamburg office.

Flexport said Braun will bring “extensive procurement, fulfilment and destination-side experience to Flexport’s EMEA ocean freight team”.

Jan van Casteren, VP for Europe at Flexport, commented: “Florian’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Ocean trade. We’ve seen historic volatility across the market since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we can expect the industry to remain highly dynamic in the coming years. In these conditions, our customers are reliant on our expertise and technology-driven insights, and I’m delighted we have such a strong team in place to deal with the challenges 2021 will present.”

Anders Schulze, VP and global head of ocean at Flexport, commented: “As a key part of Flexport’s ocean team, Florian’s strong experience will bring renewed focus to helping our customers’ navigate global markets. His mix of destination- and origin-side knowledge will be a key resource and we’re excited to have him on-board.”
