Geodis to operate airside facility at Paris CDG
New 6,000sqm warehouse will be only the second in its global network to have direct airside access, helping to ‘accelerate processing times for the flow of export and import goods’.
European freight forwarding and logistics group Geodis has opened a new 6,000 sqm site with direct airside access within the cargo area of Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport – only the second facility in its global network to have direct access to an airport’s airside ramp.
Geodis said the new Paris facility – located near Air France’s main cargo warehouse (G1XL) and other main service providers at the airport – would enable it “to provide certified services, especially for customers in the health and luxury goods sectors”.
Geodis told Lloyd’s Loading List that it also operated with direct airside access at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
Massimo Norcaro, director of Geodis’ freight forwarding business, commented: “With this investment, Geodis confirms its ability to provide a high-quality air cargo offering. Thanks to the strategic location of this new cargo station, we are able to accelerate processing times for the flow of goods, both for export and import, while ensuring rigorous safety standards for the products entrusted to us by our customers.”
Featuring the latest generation of cargo handling technology, Geodis said the new Paris facility was highly secure and certified according to IATA’s Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) and certified as TAPA Level A by cargo security member organisation Transported Asset protection Association (TAPA).
Geodis said it the warehouse will “offer a level of service excellence targeted at the pharmaceutical and luxury goods sectors. The complex will be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for the processing of temperature-controlled products, including negative temperatures.”
As part of Geodis’ environmental commitments, this HQE Excellent-certified building will ensure the highest environmental standards are met, the company said.
The site will be operational in October 2021 and will have around 120 employees.
