Port’s entrance extension
The end of last year was exceptionally dynamic in the Port of Gdynia. In the last weeks of 2018. an agreement was signed between PGA SA and the Ministry of National Defense regarding the modernization of the northern spur, constituting an element of entry from the aisport to the inner part of the Port of Gdynia.
The extension of the entrance next to the enlarged turntable is a key factor enabling the use of full port capabilities in the scope of servicing units up to 400 meters.
It is worth noting that the agreement is also part of the recently signed contract for co-financing the project with CUPT, whose main goal is to deepen the port basin, and thus expand the port infrastructure in the context of the possibility to call containers of Baltimax parameters to the port.
Currently, project work is underway to shorten the northern spur, and the coordination of the process takes place in close cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense.
– “As a member of NATO, we are obliged to comply with international maritime safety standards. Not without significance is the fact that we are one of the Naval bases, which makes defense issues a priority for us, “says Grzegorz Dyrmice, the President of PGA SA
As part of the investment, modern, energy-saving sector lights will be installed. The company also undertakes other efforts to ensure safety. The Port of Gdynia has the most modern mechanism for guiding ships around the world. The RTK-GBS system will support pilots and captains of ships in the implementation of the most difficult maneuvering operations on the largest vessels currently calling at the port. After two years from the implementation of the technology, Port Gdynia will be able to apply for the IMO certificate.
In terms of the universality of the goods being reloaded, the Port of Gdynia is the first port in Europe with this type of precise vessel positioning system with an accuracy of a few cm.
