MSC has announced that due to the ongoing congestion at UK ports the carrier will introduce congestion charges for all import containers ranging from US$50-175/TEU.
Congestion charges, on all container types, for UK imports will be imposed from 1 December for Far East origin freight, the 10 December for US imports, and from 16 November, for import cargo from other regions.
The Switzerland-based operator called the UK port congestion “unprecedented”, adding that the company expects the congestion to continue into the early part of the New Year.
“During this period of significantly high import volumes, many UK ports are experiencing challenges through berthing delays and increased dwell times,” said the company
Charges will be applied until further notice, said the company.
The company added, that for reefer shipments from South Africa / SAWC / SAEC / CAM and from the Mediterranean the amounts charged will be at the levels detailed below:
