At a conference in London, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Group CEO of ADNOC, stressed that stability and energy security are paramount to economic growth.
The speech was delivered on the back of new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, denying Iran’s leadership access to financial resources and targeting senior commanders of Navy, Aerospace, and Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), as well as the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran reportedly said that with these sanctions, the U.S. closed the path to diplomacy.
The move was made shortly after two tankers suffered damages from limpet mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Jaber said that the UAE “views very seriously any threat to security of energy supplies. Any attack on a single tanker is an assault on the entire international community.”
He added that the UAE “will work together with our friends and allies to defuse and deescalate the current threat and help ensure regional stability and the security of energy supplies to global customers.”
“Now is the time for wisdom, diplomacy and the concerted efforts of the international community, as we all have an interest in stable and secure market,” Al Jaber noted.
