Hong Kong business sentiments sinks

  • Sentiment has fallen to its lowest level since second quarter 2016, according to new survey
  • About 81 per cent of Hong Kong employers not hopeful about US, China trade talks

Business sentiment among small and medium-sized business owners in Hong Kong fell to its lowest level in nearly three years, fueled by concerns over slowing global growth and lingering trade tensions between the US and China, according to a new survey.

Despite recent optimism in the financial markets that the US and China would strike a deal on trade, 81 per cent of businesses surveyed said they were not hopeful about negotiations between the world’s two biggest economies, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and Standard Chartered said on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
