Second block train builds on the growing success of its first intermodal offer connecting China and France.
Damco is to launch a new weekly East-West rail service between China and France in response to customer demand.
Describing it as “another milestone in its fast-developing rail service”, the Maersk-owned freight forwarding and supply chain management service provider said it was “building on the growing success of its rail offer connecting China and France”, offering businesses “greater predictability, shorter lead times, and a cost-effective alternative to ocean freight”.
The additional service follows the launch last November of the company’s first block train service from China, transporting freight for sporting goods firm Decathlon between Wuhan in China’s Hubei Province and France, with a journey time of 20 days.
Kasper Krog, global head of rail at Damco commented: “We’ve seen an incredible rise in demand for rail, which is a reliable and speedy alternative to ocean freight. We know the pressures our customers are under to reduce the time it takes to move their goods from source to shop.”
Caroline Wu, CEO of Damco for the Greater China area, commented: “The new weekly East-West rail service will enable Damco’s customers to develop a more agile supply chain, allowing them to react swiftly to consumer behavior and changes in the market.”
Damco said the weekly East-West rail solution provided a regular, secure and cost-effective route from China to Europe. “Some 20 days faster than ocean freight, it has already reduced lead times, increased reliability (including via no rolling of cargo) and additionally offers greater visibility across the supply chain,” the company said.
Kasper continued: “Thanks to our GPS tracking, we offer our customers detailed insights into the whereabouts of their containers at all times, giving them peace of mind about the timely delivery of their goods, as well as their safety and security as they make their intercontinental journey. With greater predictability, our customers can make more informed decisions about how they move their goods.”
Damco Rail was established in 2014 initially with a focus on the high-tech sector and now covers a variety of vertical market segments including retail and lifestyle. Its rail solutions include: services between China and Europe; cross-border truck-rail services from Vietnam to Europe via China; and short sea-rail from Taiwan/ASEAN to Europe via China.
